BridgePort’s 2012 Stumptown Tart Revealed…

On Wednesday, BridgePort Brewing received label approval for the 5th incarnation of Stumptown Tart.  Drum roll please… The 2012 version is a Belgian-style Ale brewed with strawberries, raspberries, and marionberries. Here’s the label description:

“Our saucy vixen is back and she’s rounded up a few new friends to excite your senses. This Stumptown Tart Triple Berry Ale gathers marionberries, raspberries, and strawberries to create a crisp, refreshing, and wickedly tart brew.” – BridgePort Brewing Co.

I contacted Jeff Edgerton, BridgePort Brewmaster, to get the details.  Here’s what Jeff shared with me.

“Our 2012 Stumptown Tart is a ‘Triple-Berry’ version using all Oregon grown fruit. We made the base beer using Great Western Malting Superior Pilsen malt and malted white wheat to give the beer a slight haze, a unique flavor, and to allow the rich berry colors to show through. We used 15 lbs/bbl of a blend of Strawberries, Raspberries, and Marionberries and did a secondary fermentation in the tank using the sugar from the berries.  We fermented about 1/3 of the base beer using an Ardennes Belgian yeast.  This Belgian yeast has fruity rather than phenolic character that, I think, adds a really nice complexity to the finished beer.” – Jeff Edgerton, Brewmaster

It sounds delicious and I can't wait to taste it! Want to try it? The release party will be held at 5pm on Thursday, April 5 at Jimmy Mak’s. You’ll also meet beautiful pin-up label model, Bernie Dexter, who has graced the Stumptown Tart label since it was launched in 2008.

Sounds awesome! I hope it is.. because for me, this brewery really needs to step up its game.. hate to say it. But of the regular beer releases, nothing has struck me as being very good, but more-so just slightly above average.

I've been impressed by the few Big Brews I've tasted. Did you sample the Raven Mad Imperial Porter? I missed that one.
