Description:"This is an aggressive ale. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory–maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beverage will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make things taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this."— Stone Brewing Co.
The tasting: Dark copper in color with long lingering off-white head that left lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel and toasted malt, piney hops, and a touch of alcohol. Overall, aroma leans toward malt. Flavor again begins with a strong dose of caramel and roasted malt followed by healthy waves of citrus and piney hops. Although the hops are strong, they're balanced by sweet malts. Arrogant Bastard is medium bodied, moderately carbonated and has a syrupy mouth feel. It finished semi-dry with caramel malt and a lingering piney hop bitterness.
Rating: 4 star. Really Good! I want this again! This beer has it all—loads of hops and loads of malts that all meld together in perfect balance. Like Stone says, it's an aggressive ale. If you're a fan of the fizzy yellow stuff, you'd be best served to move along...
