Exactly one year ago, I decided to start a beer blog and wrote a post called I'm a Beer Snob. A year has flown by. Measured in beer blog terms, it equates to:
- 290 posts
- 152 beer reviews
- 12 beer fests attended
- 8 interviews
- 6 homebrews (30 gallons of homemade beer)
- Countless amazing people I've met along the way
It turns out that some nice folks (other than my wife and mom) have read this blog--and those are the people I'd like to thank. I realize I haven't won the Nobel Prize or the Academy Award. Nor is this Oprah's farewell show, but please indulge me.
First, thanks to everyone who's read the blog or taken the time to comment. The early days of blogging are lonely endeavors. Encouraging comments provided from readers (especially Mark from Corvallis) were powerful bits of motivation that kept the ship afloat. A special shout-out goes to my oldest friends from Illinois, who followed along in support of a friend. One of them, Jeff B., even designed my blog's logos (pro-bono), even though I mocked the industrial beer at his wedding (in my initial blog post).
I learned that people in the craft beer industry are almost without exception, very cool and generous people. I expected the existing Portland beer bloggers to be my biggest "competition". They've turned out to be my biggest supporters. So, a huge thanks to them for linking to my site and sharing their readers with me. They're a great bunch that produces amazing work! Check them out at pdxbeerbloggers.com. Someday, I hope to be half as good. I was also surprised by the generosity of the breweries, brewers, and PR folks who have been very generous with their time (and beer). They treat us bloggers well.
Finally, the biggest of thanks to my lovely wife and family! This blog has become somewhat of a presence in our household. While not a full-fledged family member, it's more like a pet that requires constant care and feeding. My family has put up with me and the huge amount of time it takes to run this project. I leave the legacy of this blog to my sons... That's meant to be facetious.
So thanks for following along! I can't wait to see what the next year brings!
