On Thursday, I spent the day in downtown Portland at a conference with some co-workers. After it was over, we went over to Bailey's Taproom for a few beers. I had never been to Bailey's and was looking forward to my visit.I live in the 'burbs of Portland and don't live close to a bar or taproom that offers such a diverse selection of craft beer. Bailey's features 20 rotating taps (current offerings show below) as well as bottled beer. So I made the most of my visit and sampled:
- Velvet Mirkin, Firestone Walker: Cask conditioned Velvet Merlin. This oatmeal stout packs loads of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate flavors. Very smooth! I'm a huge fan of Firestone Walker (you can see my FW reviews here). Their beers are consistently excellent, and this is no exception.
- Climax Noel, Eel River Brewing: Dry-hopped, organic, imperial red ale. Wow, this is a malt bomb! Has some spice and fruity flavors and some light hops.
- Armored Fist, Boneyard Brewing: Imperial Cascadian Dark Ale. At 10% ABV, this one packs a punch! Nice melding of citrusy hops and roasted malts. Medium bodied and nice mouth feel. I like CDAs (or Black IPAs) and just brewed my own last weekend.
If I had more time, I would have tried their 5 beer sampler tray (for only $7.50). I'm going to keep a close eye on Bailey's Tap list and will make more frequent visits downtown! If you haven't been to Bailey's yet, it's definitely worth a visit.
